ms-office-2007

I love Office 2007, but recently I've had big problems with Word.

1.) I can't select text.....

It seems this is a common problem with a number of add-ins. In this case it was the Word plug-in for Snag-It 8 from TechSmith - when I uninstalled it, mouse support came back. Note that this is not JUST a Snag-It problem. A bit of searching on the web reveals that MANY plug ins can cause this problem.

2.) The more irritating but was that Word always crashes on exit. I tried disabling and removing all the add-ins, deleting all the auto loaded templates, even uninstalling and re-installing Office 2007 with no success. Just about the time I was about to commit to waste my day rebuilding my day - I found the answer in a newsgroup archive.

DO THIS !!!

  • 1. Start Regedit.
  • 2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
  • 3. Right mouse click on the "Data" folder and delete it.
  • 4. Close Regedit.

POOF - Word 2007 is back to it's awesome self !!

RIAnimation

From the HushHushMedia.com web site....

RIAnimation = Rich Interactive Animation

Give your ASP.NET projects new life with RIAnimation. We have taken powerful JavaScript libraries (Prototype, JQuery and Interface) and developed a simple ASP.NET control for applying RIAnimations (Rich Interactive Animations) to any ASP.NET control. With RIAnimation, adding sophisticated interaction to your existing web apps is as easy as dropping our control on the form and setting three properties!

The Developer Community Team at Microsoft is looking for a Senior Program Manager to own one of our community web sites.

Each of our community web sites is the top resource for information about its respective technology. (Silverlight, ASP.NET, Windows Client, IIS) . We are looking for someone who is passionate about building great web sites for developers, has an eye for how to create communities, and can drive new innovations in this space.

In this position, you would work with many teams across the developer division and the company (including Channel9, MSDN, Marketing, Customer Support, the product teams, Developer Evangelism, the field, and so forth). I'll be joining the fine folks at AJAX World again this year and giving the following talks.

ASP.NET AJAX Design & Development Patterns

AJAX is not about Eye Candy. AJAX is about building functionality that is difficult or impossible with conventional web development technology. Done right your web applications ROCK, but it it’s done wrong and your infrastructure pays the price. This session will expose a collection of design and usage patterns that will help you understand ASP.NET AJAX under the covers and design efficient, interactive AJAX Applications using Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX Technologies.

The Digital Black Belt's Guide to Building Secure ASP.NET AJAX Applications

You think your ASP.NET AJAX application is secure, but how do you know? Are you SURE? Would you bet your career on it?

Secure application design is 1/3 Architecture, 1/3 Code, and 1/3 Operations. You can’t retro-fit a secure architecture. In this Digital Black Belt crash session you’ll get a whirlwind tour of how to write secure web applications with ASP.NET AJAX. You can’t learn it all in a day, but you can get started with secure development techniques and learn what questions you need to be asking each day in your development process.

Speaker Bio: Joe Stagner is a senior program manager in Microsoft Corporation’s Developer Tools and Platform Group and has been with Microsoft since 2001 focusing on highly scalable and performant Web application architectures, multiplatform interoperability and software security. Stagner brings 30 years technical and business strategy experience to Microsoft which affords him a unique experiential perspective.

ExtendVS

Wanna make Visual Studio do something special ?

Carl Franklin and Richard Campbell talk VSX with Ken Levy who these days is all about community and showing developers how to extend Visual Studio. A good part of the new hour interview covers topics discussed in the VSX keynote from DevTeach Vancouver in late 2007.

This is probably the biggest exposure for our VSX community activities to date, which complements the VSX CoDe Focus magazine. This podcast interview covers the story and message around VSX: VS as a platform, VS SDK, VS Shell, DSL Tools, VSIP program, plus VSX examples, online resources, roadmap plans around extending VS, community activities, and more.

If you don't already subscribe to .NET Rocks!, you can download an MP3 or WMA version of this audio podcast interview, both are 43MB files.

omar

I came across Omar Al Zabir's website which he built several years ago.

It's a Windows 2000 UI in the browser.

As we extend our web applications with AJAX, Silverlight, etc. I found this a great reminder of how far you can go with HTML & JavaScript when we really wrap our heads around them and exercise some creativity.

Cool work Omar !
