ms-office-2007

I love Office 2007, but recently I've had big problems with Word.

1.) I can't select text.....

It seems this is a common problem with a number of add-ins. In this case it was the Word plug-in for Snag-It 8 from TechSmith - when I uninstalled it, mouse support came back. Note that this is not JUST a Snag-It problem. A bit of searching on the web reveals that MANY plug ins can cause this problem.

2.) The more irritating but was that Word always crashes on exit. I tried disabling and removing all the add-ins, deleting all the auto loaded templates, even uninstalling and re-installing Office 2007 with no success. Just about the time I was about to commit to waste my day rebuilding my day - I found the answer in a newsgroup archive.

DO THIS !!!

  • 1. Start Regedit.
  • 2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
  • 3. Right mouse click on the "Data" folder and delete it.
  • 4. Close Regedit.

POOF - Word 2007 is back to it's awesome self !!

Nice.
I use Office 2007 and SnagIt but on XP Pro SP2.
Was this on Vista?

btw, my wife continually bugs me about why it takes Work 2007 so long to open a file from Windows Explorer.
Got a fix for that one yet bro? ;-)

This did not resolve the issue on an XP SP2, fully updated, with an HP Photosmart L7580 (i think, going off memory exact model).

See here for possible solution: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=165472&highlight=primo+pdf

I have not yet had a chance to try the linked solution but will in the near future when visiting this client again.

Thank you sooo much, it worked. Might I remind people to always back up your registry before making changes to it, JIC. On the registry editor, go to file and export to save a copy of the registry.

Did it on Vista Premium, but Word still crashes when i close it. It seems to me that it crashes when the document has several pages.

Though I found the problem is caused by Snag-It Add-in for Word 2007, but crashed everytime when removing it. Your instruction works! Thanks!

Great tip and fix... I too run Vista+Office 2007Pro+SnagIt8.0, and had the same issue. Removing Word and reinstalling didn't help. This registry fix did.
Many thanks

Worked perfectly, I was having a problem with Microsoft Word 2007 running on Vista Business. Word would not open files if I clicked on them. It would just open word but not the document. When I would try to close word it would crash by giving me a "close program" warning. If I opened Word and then went to file>open and chose the document it would open the doc or dot but would not let me edit it and I could not right click for options or go to more word options under the window button.

I had tried running a repair on word, changing security settings, and installing all updates. No help. This solution you gave fixed it immediately. Thanks for posting it!

Works wonderfully i also had uninstalled and reinstalled the Word package twice, ran repair, did all the updates to no avail. The computer that was doing this was also running Microsoft Vista Business. This simple step had the machine running in just a few minutes.

Thank you!

Tried it, but it didn't work for me :-(

Vista Premium
Office 2007

Excel works fine as well as all other office apps. I can open, edit and save word files alright. I just can't close word without the crash error. With it, I always come back to a full screen Word instead of the smaller window I prefer to work in.

I contacted HP and they offered 2 solutions for Office Apps crashing upon exist when a HP AIO printer is set as the Windows default. Solution 1 worked for me.

1. Click Start.

2. Click Control Panel on the Start Menu.

3. Click the Programs icon in the Control Panel.

4. Click Uninstall a program in the Programs and Features section.

5. From the list of options, right-click HP Smart Web Printing. Then select Uninstall/Change from the right-click menu.

NOTE: You can also click HP Smart Web Printing from the list of installed programs. Then click Uninstall/Change that appears in the line above the list of installed programs.

6. Click Continue to confirm the uninstall.

Hi,

I have been working since yesterday on that problem, I deleted the registry files and it did not work!!!!!!

However, my solution was solved when i renamed all the template files in the directory:
C:\Users\hatassi\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

Hope this will help you !!!!!!!!!11

I did everything. Repair, uninstall and re-install ...learned all the ways to remove an add-in.

Nothing worked.

It seems to me that Microsoft should make it easier to uninstall add-ins which remain in the system after uninstalling a program.

Your fix was the easiest to do and worked.

THANKS!!!!

Thank you so much! I have been searching for a solution for hours. I had narrowed it down to the SnagIt Add-in but I couldn't get the silly thing removed! This did it! Thanks again.

I had to disable the "Send to Bluetooth" Add-in for word to work correctly. I had deleted the data key several times and produced no result. Finally, de-selecting the COM Add-ins one at a time narrowed it down. Word now exits properly and I am happy to not be cursing the End Now boxes for however long they felt like popping up.

That worked! Thanks sooo much.
I am on win Vista + Word 2007 = Snag It 8.
However, I was working fine for several months when all of a sudden this started happening. I cannot identify why.
Deleting the Registry entries worked though.

One warning - deleting those entries also removed all of my preferences in Word.
